Report on 2nd Annual Berkeley City Tournament
| December 10, 2000 October 2 was a beautiful day - and Berkeley held its Second Annual Berkeley City Championship. Now we're an established Community event. We had one hundred golfers. More than seventy-five businesses and individuals gave generously of their time, sponsored holes and donated raffle items that made for a very successful day. Greg Goodfried gave us a terrific Championship score of 72 and plans to play next year. Barra had a Championship team score of 352 and 16 players! And no one is going to forget the stirring saxaphone of George Brooks performing our National Anthem. Our Community won too: $1,000 Berkeley Public Library Building Fund (the Championship has earned a wall tile!) $ 500 The Berkeley Community Fund (the BCF makes grants to worthy local causes) $1,000 The Berkeley Public Education Foundation (Classroom Grants to Teachers and School Volunteers) $ 600 Berkeley Youth Aternatives (Educational/Arts/Sports programs for Kids) $ 600 Women's Daytime Drop-In Center (Daytime Assistance/Programs for Women and Children) $ 500 Berkeley Police Activities League (Programs and Activities for Kids) $ 500 Berkeley Community Gardening Collaborative (Urban Agriculture, Education and Healthy Food) $1,000 Berkeley Repretory Theatre Building Fund (some day see our BCC Brick in the floor!) $1,000 Berkeley Chamber of Commerce (as fiscal agent) (proceeds to the Addison Street Poetry Panels) $ 250 Berkeley Animal Shelter Building Fund Thanks to all for a great day of memories! See you at the first tee next year! Michael Lee Clark |
